ARTSHOUSTON: INTRODUCING
BRITTANY BLY, NINA CRAIG, AND SENECA GARCIA

POISSANTGALLERY announces participation in annual ArtsHouston with three new Houston artists: Brittany Bly, Nina Craig, and Seneca Garcia. Their talent in exploring the dimensions of abstraction range from self portrait painting to installation works.

BRITTANY BLY's large scale grid drawings of tiny hearts and snowflakes visually seduce through their femininity. The hearts and snowflakes themselves are dainty in light shades of blue and pink. Brittany's work addresses romance and obsession and the underlying similarity between the two. By consistently repeating tiny girlish symbols of love, purity and chastity these symbols become mathematical and rational tools of the calculated mind. The more of these symbols abound, the more one realizes the artist's repression of cattiness and betrayal.

NINA CRAIG's paintings contain a combination of self portrait, fantasy and personal narrative. The works portray small segments of time, based upon many photographs that Nina snaps randomly in the midst of an interesting moment. The paintings are figurative and almost always contain a physical representation of the artist, yet the paintings are exaggerated with an underlying sense of romance, anxiety, or hesitation. At first glance, the paintings appear obvious, but upon further inspection, convey an undercurrent of emotion. Her paintings reflect the monotony of daily rituals, such as bathing or grooming. As a group these paintings not only read as a chronology of intimate moments, but also as a romanticized view of a woman's daily routine.

SENECA GARCIA's installations captivate us with as a natural extension on his vector/graphics based paintings. The placement of the images explores surface area and incorporates its environment. Here the drawings are free to play and interact with the space and in turn create unique site specific patterns. The superfat shapes and lines of those sinuous dead ant bodies mesh and overlap to produce an ornate and baroque tableaux.

POISSANTGallery is located at 5102 Center Street, Houston, TX 77007. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 12-6 pm or by appointment.
